Default Trans. accumilator piston question?

I have a silverado pushing 300 rwhp, and at 35,000 miles after i installed my superchips program the trans bit the dust. I wasn't getting any shift preasure and i think that the accumilator piston cracked which eventually screwed the trans up. So luckly the dealership put in a brand new 4L60E. I talked to a trans shop and they told me that they would put in aluminum ones with stronger springs in for 170 bucks. Does this seem high and would it be worth doing it. Also when can you tell that the accumilator piston is cracked without dropping the valve body on the trans. Sometimes my truck shifts fine but others the 1-2 shift lags a little, it just depends on were you punch the throttle at.

I'm gonna assume your talking aboiut the 1-2 accumolator. The 1-2 accumolator piston may crack under higher line pressure. You should put in a billet one, the part itself is about 10 bucks, prolly something like 6-8 cost. Would it be worth it to just put in a billet accumolator piston for 170, no go find another shop. They should be putting in a complete shift kit for that much. The TransGo I had gotten quotes from was quoted somewhere between 90-150 bucks for install, and 100 bucks for the kit itself.

$170 is WAY too high for just that part. It's $12 MSRP. Should take like 1 hr tops to install.

I say if you just got a new tranny get a TransGo kit in there along with at least that 'Vette servo and the billet OD.

Sonnax makes a PINLESS 1-2 accumulator AND 3-4 accumulator both are from aluminum. The TransGo comes with a heavier 1-2 spring but I think just you're supposed to retain the old 3-4 one...a heavier 1-2 spring (same as the 3-4 is like $8 only)

Also if you have the VB apart on a bench...I'd get an aluminum forward accumulator from Sonnax also. I'm about 90% sure I'm gonna be getting a PI Vig3200 here soon and when I do I'm gonna drop my VB and add those upgrade bits and increase the sep plate holes accordingly.

HitMan .. Sonnax makes a valve for the 3rd accum that you should get too, specially with those billet servos. It helps save 3rd gear with the billets. I think we talked about it on MSN too.

Ah yes, I recall that. When I go through my VB I'm going to use all the TransGo that's in there and get the Sonnax bits.

Hopefully that TCC Regulator that makes it an ON/OFF situation also.

I'm also gonna toss a few check *****. The 5th and 3rd (for the overruns and the reverse feed) and the one in the input shaft for a firmer TCC lockup also.

I'm anxious to see how it will work with all them add-ons and a heavy 3-4 accumulator spring.

Also their HD stator support for the front pump looks like something I'll be purchasing also as it keeps fluid flow constant.

Don't forget one you get fluid flow figured out it's line rise in 3rd and 4th that are the problems BUT that Vac Modulated shifts aren't always the answer! Gimme more time and I'll figure out the best way to keep line rise. Obviously the HO pump slide spring and boost valve are a must.

Oh and apparently the 10 vane pump vs the 13 don't make too much of a difference. I was told the 13 vane causes problems at high RPMs due to caviatation (like a water pump). So I dunno...

Why tossing all the check balss, that to me just sounds asking for trouble.

My tranny came with a 13 vane pump.

I'm tossing three only. The Reverse feed is only for when you shift into Reverse. It elminates the delay bang apparently.

The one for the overrun clutches is for the 3-2 kickdown that was always poor on my truck. There was a delay bang there. Fairbanks told me it was due to the overruns not coming on quick enough.

The last ball is in the input shaft...it regulates TCC lockup feel. It's not going to be super firm lock up, just better. PI told me about it and it was also in that ATSG book too.
