Default TBSS swap on 5.3?

Hey guys, looking for info from people who have done the tbss/nnbs manifold swap specifically on 5.3 engines, if ti was successful, not successful, and most importantly worth the time and money for the gains it provided?

The last link about no improvement was interesting, so for a daily driver that rarely sees over 3k rpms it's probably not worth it, the last post even said that a stock truck intake can be ported to flow as well as the tbss...

I'm still interested to see how many more guys think it either helped or hurt them swapping intakes

I put it in there because some guys say its not worth it.

You need to evaluate your over all goals along with how you will spend most enjoying your set up.

I am not bashing the setup but the same type of thing happened with the LS1 intake.

People thought they would make more power so they ran out and bought them up. When tested on the Dyno the should no improvement. Actual back to back testing was done with results and people still bought into it and did the swap only to report back and say they were disappointed.

I have no experience with The TBSS intake on a 5.3 I just wanted you to see both sides of it. If you spend most of your time in the lower RPM ranges there might not be much of a benefit and your money might be better spent else were.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the help, my truck is a '02 Sierra with 100k on it, lifted on 33s, I'm looking at camming it and have read that the tr220 would be a great cam for me, since I want to keep the stock converter for towing.

So, since it's a dd, changing the intake wouldn't help much even with a cam I'm thinking, since I have the 862 heads with the small intake valves. Good thing I checked before spending money on a mod that wouldn't really help.

A cam would be a good mod and net you some nice gains.

Maybe later a ported set of heads. Even a mild clean up in the bowl area's shows gains on a stock engine.

I will doing this on my 6.0 shortly. hopefully the 6.0, stock 317's pacesetter LT's, and 217/223 cam will yield some results. Gonna be adding some nnbs flex fuel injectors just before so the tuning isnt as crazy.

You will probably be just fine on a 6.0 that's what the intake was originally designed around.
