Anyone know if a stock SS (or Denali) Y pipe and exhaust will bolt up to a regluar Z71 5.3 set up? Was thinking this would be a nice way to switch over since so many guys are turning to Headers on their SS and the 6.0 flows more air the the 5.3. Maybe just cut out the stock exhaust and slip in a magnaflow muffler?

 

Don't mess with the stock SS exhaust, just put in a magnaflow or any other highflow muffler.

 

Creederado put an SS exhaust on the GMC he used to have...the exhaust manifolds have to be changed also to make it work. The flanges to the down pipes are different. Also, the SS's don't have a y-pipe like the 4.8-5.3's, they have 2 pipes into single muffler. It can be done, but you'll need more than just the front pipes etc...you'll need new manifolds also (or some nice long tube headers )

 

Thanks for the info. Sounds like my best bet is a set of Long Tubes and a good cat back w/ y pipe. Any advise on long tubes (pacesetter, dynatec, stainless works)?

 

I like the StainlessWorks, and they fit 03 and up (hopefully they'll be fitting the earlier years soon too )
