Procharger or Radix?
#1
I have been debating between these 2 superchargers for awhile. I have been reading the results and reviews people give them and I like what I see, but they both have their pros and cons. The Radix is a complete system which includes everthing from injectors to computer tuning. The problem I see with this is that it has limitations to it. It can only make so much boost and only til 5500 rpm. This is fine for a stock motor, but what if I what to go all out heads/ cam on top of that. I do not think the two with go together very well considering it is made for a stock motor. Not to mension being a roots type blower it makes all its boost nearly instantaneously. I do not think that is very healthy for the drivetrian.
The Procharger on the otherhand is not much of a complete system, leaving it to me to do what I want with it. From what I gather the FMU is a peice of crap. But I think this system is very nice for a heads/ cam motor. There are no limitations. The thing I do not like about the Procharger is the general set up. The air filter is right above the motor sucking in all of the horsepower robbing heat. The intercooler is mounted flat so it gets no air coming thorugh it. And when and if you start to run higher boost the belt tends to slip.
I am not meaning to rag on either of these supercharger systems. I do like both of them very much. I would just like some input and opinions of what you all think.

P.S.- In case you are wondering, I would like to do a 6.0 h/c motor, but not right now.

There is a guy that just put a Radix on top of a 427 stroker in his new Silverado SS. So far so good for him.
As far as a procharger, how many guys can we name who have burned up the #7 piston or something similar on the procharger. Its not perfect, but I'd run one in a heartbeat.
I think the Radix is the one to have at this point. You'll be happy to have the extra low end boost. The procharger actually eats power until it gets into boost.

Hope that won't be too much?

I run a Yank 3000 with my Radix and get 1.80 60' times in a Tahoe. You might need 3200 with a ProCharger, but it would be over kill with a Radix the Magnacharger system makes boost as soon as you open up the throttle. You can add more boost with a pulley change,it takes about 5 minutes to change becaused it's keyed, unlike the pressed on pulley used on Ford Lightnings and Cobras. The porting on the Eaton"Radix"supercharger is supposed to be 23 percent more effecient than the same sized Eaton supercharger used by the Fords. That means more horsepower at lower boost levels than the Ford unit.My boost actually peaks at 6000rpms because the tuning provided with the kit has the rev limiter set there. With custom tuning the system could be set to make power above 6000rpms,but with the system making boost as early as 2000rpm making huge torque you don't need the higher revs.

Just bolt on and go, I would bolt on a Radix. However, if you have a LS1Edit and like to tune I believe that a Procharger is better.
With a ATI you will need a loose converter. Probably a Precision with a 3200ish stall. I do not like the placement of the air filter, I made a cold air tube that goes to the stock location. I hate the way the intercooler is mounted and I am trying come up with something on that. Buy some bigger injectors and throw the FMU in the trash. Get the D-1SC upgrade because you will not max it out. I have not had any belt slip with my pulley but, I have a slightly smaller pulley on the way.
I love my Procharger.

StupidFast - If you're willing to get rid of your hood latch mechanism in favor of hood pins I know a HUGE front mount intercooler will fit. I am making up some drawings to fax off Monday to Spearco. It would be about 34" * 16" * 3.5" and the Input/Output tubes would come out the bottom. It would require a little bit of custom tubing but, should work great. Oh Yeah, the A/C condenser will have to be set back against the radiator for the FMIC to fit.

Front mount intercooler sound like a great idea with the ati kit Keep us posted on how it pans out
i wanna try and get a computer relocation kit together for our trucks that way the tubing for the intake could go down and suck in some colder air

a front mount would be a great idea, id like to hear more about that too XLR8NSS, i say go ATI mines not even done yet and its been a nightmare to get together but i still love it.
