Default PatG Custom Cam Question

I recently had a cam spec’d by PatG for my RCSB. The truck has a 5.3 with full bolt-ons, 4.10 gears, and a 3200 stall. The cam he Spec’d me is a 228/232 .600/.600 111+4 LSA cam. The truck will be my daily driver, and I was wondering if this cam would be too big for the 5.3? I realize he knows a lot more about cams than I do, but I’d just like too get a second opinion from anyone else.

It will be a beast of a cam... too big is all relative. Its very hard to judge how much of an appetite for lope at idle you have. Pat G is a good guy who knows what he is doing. My guess is you made it clear you wanted this thing to be heard. This cam will be heard.

It's a tad bigger than I would have gone for a daily driver with a 3200, but it'll make some steam!

What would you suggest then?

Assuming he really wants something that will chop I would have some something alone these lines:

224/230 111.5+3.5 .600/.600

The shorter duration and earlier intake close will make the power curve come on a tad earlier. This cam has 4* overlap vs pats 8*. 4* is still plenty to sound healthy in a 5.3, but pats cam would chop more. Pat's cam will offer higher peak numbers, but that 3200 stall has me a little nervous... there is nothing worse than being squishy off the line and really having no way to solve that issue. If you had a 3600 and wanted a really choppy cam I would give his spec 2 thumbs up.

I’m not too worried about chop. I just wanna be fast 😅. That’s another thing is that I’m kinda concerned about the 3200 stall with that cam. I talked too Pat a little more about the cam and he said it would be fine with the 3200 cam, but I’ve always seen a 3600 stall or higher for a cam like that.

When you say fast, are you talking like rolling around on the street, or at the 1/4 mile.

1/4 mile races are won in the 60'. Pat's cam has plenty of nut to spin the tires off the line and feel fast even down low on the street while offering better power up top. If that's what you're after, I would run his cam.

I am sure he spec'd out what you ask for in the details. Is this a daily? Its way more than I personally would want for daily driver. We all have different tolerant levels though. I would keep the intake duration @ .050 around 216-218, 4 degree exhaust spread, 112 LSA and .550 ish on the lift. Cheaper/easier on the valvetrain, better drivabilty, easier to tune, plenty of power. Again, that's just me.

Yes it will be my daily after I sell my extended cab. I’ve already have a 212/218 cam in my current daily, but it just doesn’t feel enough. I’m still mainly leaning towards the TSP 223/226 cam. With a 3200 stall and 4.10 gears that doesn’t seem like too bad of a combo in a single cab. I want a decent sized cam, but the one PatG recommended just seemed a tad big. Again, he knows more than I do though lol.
