Default One of my O2 sensors is bad...should I replace both of them?

Just like the title says. I got a check engine light about a week ago and I got it scanned and one of my O2 sensors is bad, forgett which code exactly it was. Should I just replace the one, or do both at the same time?

Thanks, Kent.

absolutely change both, unless they are VERY young. you will get different values between the two from buildup on the old one.

Cool, that is what I thought. How much do they cost by the way?

don't know, since the trucks are still so new, probably not cheap. sorry. you MAY get it changed under emissions warranty. doesn't hurt to check.

I think the warranty period on those items is like 70K or 80K miles. If they replace one under waranty, buy the other and run 2 new ones.

I called Autozone and they said they are $85 for the pre-cat O2's each.

85 each? Screw that. Get the 02 sims and move the back ones to the front, cut the cats off and save some money and make more HP at the same time!! (I doubt that would work but maybe?)

It might not be a bad idea to swap out them both at the same time, but I'd at least switch them first to see if the problem moves from one Bank to the other. The EPA requires the pollution stuff to be warrantied a lot longer than the rest of the powertrain. You ought to try to get the dealer to change them out for you for free if you can especially if you plan to change them both at $85 each. The Simms will cost you about $100 for a pair with shipping. That's one way to go if you plan to remove or gut the cats, but living in Calif. you better be careful about that. That's what's so great about living in the south. We don't have smog and even if we did there is no one smart enough to know how to run the I/M machine anyway.

I think the front and rear O2s have different connectors. The fronts are 4 wire flat, the backs are 4 wire square. I'd like to know if the O2s are physically the same except for the connectors. I know the purpose for both sets of sensors. Do the rears have different elements or something?
