Hey Greg. Here is the easiest way to get the clutch fan off: Remove the shroud (two bolts on top, 4 plastic pins on the sides). Put a large / long set of locking pliers (vicegrips) on the clutch bolt with the handle pointing upward. Strike the handle with a hammer counterclockwise. It took me 3 or 4 firm taps to break it free. Once free, pull off pliers, and spin it off. Don't waste your time trying to wedge the pulley.
Standing in front of the truck, bending over looking down at the mounted fans, the left terminal is the ground (pass side), the right is the heat.
Use a relay to power them on. Run the relay switch to a toggle in the cab. Then you can at least turn them off if you want without popping the hood and pulling a fuse. I have mine wired on all the time right now, but I have had to unplug them dozens of times (like when I want to change my hypertech and dont want the fans pulling my batt down). Then you can flip them off when its cold and your heater will get warm faster. You will find that right now (winter) unless you are in traffic with the A/C on, the temp won't move with the fans not running.
Let me know if you have any questions.

My LT1 fans should be here Monday. I have never attempted an install like this and I'm kinda in the dark on how the wiring is hooked up. Anyone want to post step-by-step instructions? I think I can handle getting the old stuff out and mounting the new ones in, but I have no clue on the wiring. I really want to turn on/off in the cab. Where is the best place to mount the toggle? Thanks

I got a set from a 95 LT1 for $75. Not bad. Ok guys that have LT1 fans, what side of the plug is hot or will it matter? Also can someone get me some good closeups of how you mounted them in there. I want to put them in Monday. Also, looking from the fron of the truck, does the fan clutch nut turn clockwise or counter. For now, I am going to run them all the time. Later, I want to run them on a temp switch and have a manual interupt for one of them. Anyone know what CFM's these fans pull.

The clutch nut turns counter clockwise, and is a BITCH to do. THe way i did it was to put a small bolt into one of the holes on that pulley, then I wedge a peice of pipe between that screw and the frame, then put a peice of pipe over the wrench i was using for extra tq, and it came off. Talk to BradWLV about looking at his. I beleive the fans for the LT1 and the LS1 are the same, and i had the Ls1 on mine, and brad has them now. THey pull a lot of air, but not sure how much. I just trimmed some of the plastic but left the lip on the top, and the lip fits between the radiator and the top metal brace, then i used straps from a Hayden fan kit that go through the radiator fins. Once i had it finished and wire loomed up, it looked like it belonged there. If ya want some help with them, gimme a call, ill see what i can do.

I have my LS1 fans hooked up through a thermo switch and a manual switch in the cab triggering the 30 amp relay to power the fans. Works good but i need to put the thermo sensor in the upper radiator hose to get a more accurate reading. It is currently sandwitched between the fan housing and the radiator.
And yes... that clutch fan is a bi*** to get off. I used a strap wrench, big crecent wrench and a hammer to get mine off. It does turn counterclockwise to get it off.

Way to many BIG'S in this post. I did a combo of Daren and BigTex's suggestions. I put in a screw/pipe to wedge the pulley and then put a 12" cresent on the nut and gave it a good hit with a 2lb hammer and bam! it was off.

So how long did the install take? I think I will attempt mine tonight when I get off work. I still need wiring help though. Anyone care to post how to wire everything up? Also, do I need 2 30amp relays or just 1?
Thanks

My install took about 4 hrs start to finish. I had to run all over town to find some zip staps to use to help hold them in until I fab some brackets. There is definatly a differance. Right now, I have them wired directly to the batt and toggles in the cab. I am going to get a thermo control switch soon, but still have an overide in the cab. I took a lot of pictures and will try to post them later this week along with detailed instructions of my setup.
Bigtex: The pins for the wiring (on mine) are like this: If your standing in front of the truck, looking down with the plugs on the bottom, The left pin goes to hot and the right pin goes to ground for puller fans, swap them around for pushers(the blades are angled wrong for pushers).
i have them run through 30 amp relays and 30 amp in-line fuses (the 25a's popped instantly).
