You pretty much hit the nail on the head.

It doesn't look near as bad as the other side. I still don't know what happened. I want to pull the timing cover off and check the cam timing though.

I turned the crank over some and no noises like I was hearing. I can't find where the pieces of metal cam from, and I can't see any obvious evidence where the valves may have tagged pistons.

Could it have possibly been severe detonation in those two cylinders?

There hadn't been any KR. I don't konw what would have made it just appear from no where.

Non eof this still explains the 'dropping a cylinder' I felt.

I had no KR at all either when #1,5 & 7 upper ring lands went on mine. I had my eye on my scanguage. I had a sudden nose dive an could hear the severe detonation though

Maybe that wasn't caused by knock either???? I dunno. I know mine wasn't knocking though, or hasn't anytime I put a scanner on it.
