Default Most you can mill 862 heads on 4.8 ?

I'm sure there is an answer to this somewhere but im impatient. What's the most you can mill off 862 heads on a 4.8? I have to replace some noisy lifters that have been bothering me for a while and i picked up another set of 862 heads cheap.Just need an answer before i drop them off at the machine shop. I also plan on doing a camshaft while im replacing lifters, not sure what cam yet though. Just looking to increase compression a little i guess. Thanks

depends...cam shaft and ptv all play rolls in what you can mill off
My 243 heads are milled .040 on my 5.3

Bet if you use the search you will find the answer you need!

Agreed, it really depends on what camshaft you are willing to go with. We really dont recommend taking too much off (more then .040"-.050") as we have seen it lead to intake fitment issues.

Not sure what camshaft, any recommendations ?? Just a daily driver so i don't want anything that's gonna hurt gas mileage or anything that's gonna need a higher stall converter. Thanks

With the smaller cubic inch of the 4.8, and without a stall converter, we see the best results out of the 212/218 High-Lift Camshaft.

I like the 212/218 low-lift,it proved itself to me with very good results in my 5.3
212/218 low-lift and mill the heads .040 with a set of long tubes should be a good combo on a 4.8
A set of 3.73-4.10 gears would really compliment the combo since you dont want a stall.
4.8 already lacks lowend from the small cubic inches

Sounds good, i'd like to make close to 300 hp at the wheels, im sure it's not easy on a 4.8. People tell me to swap it for a 6 liter but im not swapping it til the 4.8 dies first. If i did do a converter what stall would work best?

yank tt3000 or a circle d 3200 would do great

26-3200 would work with that cam and still drive good
