I absolutely agree! If you're really looking for the best performance and you're not gonna build the 5.3L into a beast, I'd stay with the 3" system as well. That's what I'm running now but my truck had an aftermarket dual exhaust when I bought it. In my mind, there's no question that my present setup is producing more power and I know my MPG has improved!

Thanks, thats what I was looking for. What about the muffler I should use. I plan on doing some mods, nothing major. I want a nice low rumble at idle and loud when I get on it but dont want a lot of noise when on the HWY. I will prob go w/ stainles but what size and round or oval, P/N's would be great. THANKS a lot for all the info!!!!!

2001 Seirra ecsb 5.3, I just want the muffler. Catback is too expensive and I'm dumpin before the axle. What is better, round or oval?? Is stainless worth the extra money or should I get the aluminized steel?? I really dont know anything about exhaust. Flowmaster is the most popular muffler around here and I know they are mostly for sound. THANKS for the info!!!

well, that's easy, if you want lots of sound #14319 -14" shell, 3" in/3" out
for something queiter, # 14579 -22" shell 3in/3 out
those are stainless parts #s, for aluminized, try 12319 and 12579.

if you are going to keep the truck ss is the way to go. I have actually seen the inside
of a alum muffler collapse and plug up exhaust flow, this was on a blown suburban and
caused some expensive problems
there is very little differnce in the price of alum and ss magnaflow.

get your exhaust installer help you pick a muffler.

Right on! If you're gonna hang on to the truck, go ahead and get the stainless. I had a 22" with single in/out 3" installed (welded) for $125. Even with the headers, mine has a very well-mannered sound at idle and a very aggressive tone under acceleration.

So oval SS is the way to go. What about the 18" 14249. I dont want too loud or too quiet. So exactly how loud is the 14"?? Also I dont think my local muffler shop gets Magnaflow, so if I have to buy it online where is the best place to buy?? THANKS!!!!

Hey Bodyguard,

I ordered mine from hottexhaust.com. They gave me the best price. I should have it in this week and maybe even installed. I'll post on how it compares to my flowmaster.
