I own a muffler shop and have tried Everything..and I mean everything
I have magnflow on current truck and my previous 2000 5.3
On my 2000 I dynoed a dynomax utraflow[ straight tru] and magnaflow, same day-same dyno and magnflow made 10 rwhp more. go figure and enough said. In fairness the dynomax was a dual outlet but still straight tru. A single 3" is your best bet for a 5.3, 6l need a different set up
Buy the stainless stuff and you will never buy another muffler for that truck.
Over and above that if you sell the truck take the stuff off and sell it used.
The bigger the shell, the quieter the sound but they do get louder with age.

Enjoy. David

Allgonoshow, are you talking about a single 3in pipe after the factory Y and through the muffler?? Or custom exhaust work after the headers?? Because when I get my Thorley Tri-Y's I was thinking about ditching the factory Y and just have the shop run 2-2.5in pipes after the cats and into the muffler, 2 in 1 out. Which is better?? THANKS!!

I really need some help with this!! I dont have the luxury of being able to change my exhaust once a month so I want to get it right the first time. I'm going with the Coated Thorely Tri-Y's, keeping the cats and going with a magnaflow muffler. I just need to know whats the best setup and what size muffler to use. (I have the 5.3). Any help is appreciated. THANKS!!!!

What do you recomend for an '03 Suburban 5.3L? I would like to put duals straight out the rear w/ some crome tips for looks. Should I go with a single in dual out or 2 seperater mufflers. Should I change my stock y pipe or h-pipe which my stock '03 has?

Personally I would stay with a single 3" cat back on 5.3L even if you have headers.
I haven't seen direct single to dual dyno comparisons but it seems single 3" flows good . duals might have an advantage with an x pipe installed but duals are more work and expense.
My personal setup is the magnaflow catback kit[ headers, stock y- behind headers to single 3" with single side exit tail pipe} but we do lots of custom stuff for 6l's or weld in mufflers for guys on a budget, or duals for guys that want them. Personally I don't think there is a big different in power for a daily driver between single or duals behind the cats on a 5.3L.
If you want 2 tailpipes, just use a single in dual out muffler, #14288 is small body
and order or have tailpipes made.
check the magnaflow w/site

good luck, david
