Question Are longtube headers really worth it??

I have been looking at getting a set of ASM long tube headers but am hesitant to how much they will actually help me out. I have a set of Edlebrock shorty headers on there now. Do the long tubes really make that much of a difference??

I can't speak from personal experience with shorties on the 5.3 but, from everything I've read, the shorty headers are only supposed to be good for 4-5 hp over the stock manifolds.

I have the TOG's and can verify that they added a lot of oomph to the get-up-and-go across the whole rpm range. I believe the 20 hp claims.

Yes long tubes are worth it, especially over shorties.

i seen a post that gain between longtubes and shorties is a minimum difference unless your making
some serious power.

They would work even better with a mild to aggressive cam. Your power will move up in the rpm range though. I got about 15 from my ASM's.

I couldn't tell much difference in the black truck in my TOG, but I did a lot at once there, so it was hard to tell what did what.

In the blue truck, I ca tell LOADS of difference. I also had them coated before I put them on the blue truck. I think that helped alot. I know that helped with the headers throwing codes and making the engine run rich.

I would be sure to get them coated if you don't go with the ASM's as they already come coated.

I don't think it is as much as some might say, unless you got more mods like cam and what not. I just helped my friend put on some long tubes on his, and yeah you could feel the improvement, but it felt little better than the improvment I got with my JBA shorties. I will say thought, that it seemed to start to pull harder down lower than mine. I felt much more top gain with mine than anywhere else. Nice mid gain also. On my friends truck it feels a little more peppy all around, but like I said, not that big of a difference between the two, since our trucks are modded the same.

My last trip at the track I raced another FSC.

He ran a 15.32 @ 88.88
I ran a 15.14 @ 91.86

I think I got more in mine, I just need to learn how to run it better at the track.
