Default keeping an eye on the temps

concidering engine and trans oil temps are the most important gauges and i have neither -i'd like to have them.

How are you guys keeping an eye on them?
how do electronic/digital gauges work. what do they tap into? stock wiring? can you plug into stock wiring? hoses?

I'm looking for trans and oil temp gauges most likely, and digital read out if possible

thanks

IMO you dont need an oil temp but you DO need a trans temp. Get and escalade cluster and it already has the temp gauge in it and works just plug and play. You can get some from Autometer that are digital and for the trans if you dont go the esc cluster route you can tie into the trans temp signal wire behind the cluster it already has the sensor in the trans you just have to find the correct wire with a wiring shematic.

a friend and i were discussing it- whats more important to your engine than engine oil temp?

coolant? well youd notice a rise in oil temps and shut it down
EGT too high? oil will let you know
oil pressure dead? you'll hear it. by the time you notice it on the guage, its probobly too late :p

anyway, whats the going price for the escalade cluster?

ebay seems to be the best place. You can also look at Denali clusters. Same plug and play but different look. Plus you get the 120mph speedo with both.
