Default Its been awhile....cam recommendation

So I've been out of the LSx loop for awhile, especially the 5.3L specific.

So I'm looking for a cam to swap in my truck over the winter.

Here's my setup:
1968 C-10 (~4000 lbs)
'05 5.3L, headers, dual 2-1/2 exhaust with X-pipe, CAI, LS6 intake
98 T/A 4L60E and torque converter
4.10 gears
Stock tune (as far as fuel/timing goes)

I know back when I had my corvette a lot of people with LS1s were running TR 224 and it has become mild by some standards.

Now in a 5.3L, Is that cam going to be too much? Is there a "new" cam out that might fit the bill better.

The truck is not a daily driver by any means. Its a cruiser, car show, and hopefully a racer (I haven't made it to the track yet).

Also, if I get a converter where should I look and what stall? I don't think I want a real loose 'verter.

circle d specialties make great converters and so does yank , >>>>>>>
depending on your budget and goals in you build , i know i started with a circle d 278mm 3200 stall my truck drove like stock my truck was driven by people that dint even know what a stall converter was and dint feel a diffrence , just ma .2

I agree on the Circle-D converter, I love mine If you just want something that sounds mean for car shows and whatnot, maybe check out Comp's newer Thumpr series, which are basically intended to sound like old school muscle. For power under the curve, I still say that it's amazing how bluecajun's rcsb ran 12's with a cam only TR220-112 5.3, 3200 converter, and I believe 4.10 gears. Guys have gone bigger than the TR224 in 5.3's, but it seems like the gain % gets smaller as the duration goes up, just an observation of mine...

im running a 224r cam, 3200 circle d, 4.10s and i am very happy with it so far.

If money is no option I say go custom grind that way you can get the right horsepower, torque, and choppy idle or sleeper sound whatever you are looking for have but have a verter in mind cause they need to work well together.

Actually, custom grinds from Comp, or Comp vendors such as TSP, are the same price as their shelf grinds. All that would cost extra would be $25 or so if he had someone like PatG to spec it out for him...

OK, so I Like the sounds of the Circle D 278mm 3000-3200 stall converter

sounds like maybe the TR 220-114 would be a good, slightly milder option.

With that cam, is it neccessary to get new push rods? Are the comp 918 springs the preffered springs with a "lower" lift cam like this one?

I know its only 25$ more but you get what you want went you want it and how you want it to sound better by custom grind but thats MO.
