I changed my filter today and checked my pressure before and after with a Actron hand held gauge. Each cycle it hit 55 psi and dropped to 45 psi (the gauge looked like this ) so I guess the average was 50 psi. Never read a fuel gauge berfore so I thought that was normal. After the switch it pulsed on fitty pretty steady. Does that mean the pump was pushing higher than 55? Prolly. Change your filter.

Here are some pics from the Magnacharger instructions for my vehicle. I added the arrows indicating the filter. The instructions are only for replacing the pump. Haven't seen anything wrt the filter.

On the 04 and up, the "filter" is the small sock that is on the bottom side of the pump. It stays submerged in the plastic bucket. It sure would be nice to be able to service it once in a while. I guess you could, if you wanted to mess around to pull that stuff all apart. The guys at my local Chevy dealer say they have problems with them all the time, and the recommended procedure is to replace the complete "fuel pump module", about $500! I guess most replacements are done under warranty.
