G80 LOCKER FINALLY BROKE !!!
#1
Well last night a loud bang follwed by some hopping around corners happened. I took apart the rearend cover and found that I am missing a spider gear (broken in 4 pieces)
I purchased a detroit locker because of the warranty and because they said it would not break what are your thoughts on this. I drive mostly on the street.
Thanks ben-

I love the Detroit and its definatley a part built for "heavy duty" use. It's nowhere near as discrete as a LSD/Posi but when it's engaged you don't have to worry about sliping. This locker will definately make the truck a bit tail happy and "fun" to drive during inclimate weather. I've got about 6K on the locker and 4.10's with no incidents thus far.

Oxidizr,
How is the detroit locker on the street. Will I be OK with the 3.73s and 30 inch tires on the street? I just dont know if I should change anything else or if its ok as is.
Thanks-

It really isn't that bad...at least in my perception, but that may not be the same for your. Coupled with my converter, loss of traction is easily attainted, even at part throttle. It definately makes for "more driving" but gettin' a little sideways while whipin' thorugh the corners isn't always bad
If scratching tires while cornering bugs you or a hard engagement may spill your drink then this is not for you. Put it this way...I don't loan the truck out or let anyone drive it who has not been behind the wheel of a tail happy machine of one kind or another.
This is a boarderline "street vehicle mod"

Oxidzr,
Cup holders, hey dont get the wrong idea, I have a fast tahoe not some cafeteria on wheels.
Thanks for the reassurance. I guess its like any other performance add on. Performance first, comfort second, Although no one should complain about trucks that are to fast or function properly!
