Ebay/OBX style header install w/plenty of PICS (LONG, but detailed)
#531
I bought my (actual obx brand) headers over the summer when the cheap ones were out of stock. After having them on for months, on Pelican island since august (salt air, pile of sulfur next to the campus, industrial fallout), the hot areas after the collector have started corroding on the surface. Not bad, but it bothers me. The chinese hardware is rusted, but I expected that. I'd buy em again if I had to make the choice again though. Probably should have waited for a set at 200 something dollar though. They don't rasp or sound crappy with an open y behind a stock 5.3 either.. Decent merge and the resonators I guess
With the dummy cats and rear o2's (turned off) screwed into the bungs and wires connected, it passed inspection without a second glance

You can order this gasket from Amazon or find it at a local parts store.

Damn I'm glad I found this thread!! Has anyone that has the old style OBX header have them with the Taylor "409" wires? I have those on my truck and got the entire setup for free. One wire is partially burned and the two problem wires were jerry rigged with old style universal MSD SBC wires. They were corroded really bad and the coil side just fell out when I tried to tweak the connector closed some more. I see how you guys have wrapped header wrap on the OEM wires with good success, but the Taylor's are pretty damn fat. You think they'd still fit ok with a couple layers? Or even just wrapping that section of tube with header wrap? I really don't want to wrap the header because I know header wrap makes the metal fatigue over time.

After nearly 2 years, my one wire got burned, or should I say overheated enough that it finally gave me a misfire.
I made a longer wire to go around the pipe, still wrapped it, and expect it to last longer than the last one.
I'd just wrap the wire with the heavy duty turbo piping wrap like I used and know you've got it 99% better than without.

I made a small bracket for mine that bolts onto the header with one of the manifold bolts. Not the best design, as the bracket has a somewhat sharp edge that will probably cut through the wire eventually, but it works for now.
