I searched and didn't find any post like this but if somebody already did then kudos to you too. I did my LS1 fan swap yesterday and of course my clutch fan was not coming ooff easily...after 30 minutes trying to get it off I had an idea. If you look at the pulley there are 4 small holes in it. I simply unfolded a metal clothes hanger pushed through the hole looped it around the tensioner pulley and twisted it back together real good. Then turned the fan until the clothes hanger got tight and the fan came right off!! So easy

 

They make a fan clutch holding tool that you can borrow for free at most auto parts stores.

Yeah I used a crescent wrench and hit it about 20 times even tried to pull a Sammy Sosa hit but didn't work..

 

i always just stick a small bolt in one of those holes then take a big screw driver and stick it in between the bolt and the pulley and take a big crescent and take it off..the bolt will more than likely get bent so use some thin you dont have to reuse

 

Had hundreds of those fan clutches off. I always just smack the tip of a fan clutch wrench with a hammer while the belts still on. Works every time just hit it at a slight angle. Large cresent wrench works as well.

 

I used a big cresent and a medium sized mallet and hit it pretty hard and it didn't come loose...then made sure the area was clear around me and did a practice swing and keeped my head down, threw my hips into it, and drove it through the zone and it came loose pretty quick lol.

 

I used a big Cresent wrench, a hammer, and a lot of penetrating oil. It came loose with one good whack.

That's a pretty good idea though too.

 

I Just Gave Mine A Quick Hit With An Air Hammer On The Corner Or The Nut Then Just Spun It Off By Hand
