I used the belt as a belt wrench. Good ideas though. I have heard more than once that what gmcdealertech has said work MOST of the time. Just a love tap. Once I got my belt tight it literally took a love tap.

I used a C clamp to hold the belt onto the pulley. Not the best idea, but I was desperate.

A large strap wrench will work(opposing force), too.

thanks for making this thread it helped me out today, what worked for me was putting a pipe wrench on the main pulley to hold it and then use a big cresent wrench and tap it with a mallet, im glad this method worked because i really didnt wanna go to autozone to rent the proper tool.

That's pretty creative...cool I wrapped the pulley in a piece of belt to protect it, then put a chain wrench around the pulley to hold it steady. After that a big wrench on the nut and viola

I've used vise grips to hold the belt to the pulley while everything was still assembled.... but usually the crescent wrench/hammer combo works out the best.... glad I finally got some electric fans

It turns toward the passenger side. If you have an air chisel it takes 2 seconds to bust it loose the big nut and the rest will come off hand tight.
