Any decent scan tool(not code reader) can tell you if you're rich or lean. Just monitor your STFTs and LTFTs. The closer to ZERO the better. If your 02s toggle above and below 450mVdc your fuel trims should be withing spec. A gutted cat is a good cat.

i am going to start of with air fuel diagnostics.

then going to add new cats...either random technology 100 cpi metal or slp 200 cpi metal cats. will mount them a bit down stream if possible.

also going to put in two more mufflers after the axle to get it even quieter.

I will try and get a pic this week-end. the x-pipe is right after the cats. both cats are after the trans crossmember then the drivers side 45's to the passenger side into the x-pipe.

I don't think it is so much the heat destroying them as much as the velosity of air at the collector area just forcing the substrate out of it's body. My passenger side looked like wadded up tin foil when I found it pinned against thr rear o2 sensor

Just a note...in a stock setup the cats are supposed to be as close to the collector as possible to allow them to heat up to work properly...I could see how in a performance application this may be a problem, especially if the tune isn't spot on, or the engine is boosted and running very rich at WOT...

I've heard of one or two people blowing out their StainlessWorks cats...mine have been going strong for almost 5 years now, not sure if they've changed their cat supplier through the years though...
