Default Cam/Performance mods for CCSB 2500HD

Just picked up a 2004 sierra 2500hd 6.0 ccsb with 4.10's and obviously already have the mod bug. It came with a magnaflow in place of the stock muffler and that's it. My main goal out of this is to make it a torque monster b/c it's so heavy. It rarely sees over 4000k RPM and I don't plan on towing anything. I'm going to get Atomic (Richard) to tune it first because I've heard these engines come way detuned from the factory.

I have a TR224 that's in my 2dr Tahoe with a LQ4 that I could put in there, but I think I'm going to take it out and trade it for something in the 21x/21x area to put in my new truck. I just think the 224 is way to big for such a big truck, the power doesn't come on till above 3k on that cam and I want something where the power comes in a lot sooner.

Future, I'd like to add some PRC 2.5 heads or some milled 243's to bump up the compression, again I'm trying to to get some more torque out of this. I'd like to keep have the new cam on a 110-112 lsa b/c I love the chop.

So any ideas for cam/head ideas? I figured I'd keep the truck intake, don't see really any point in the TBSS intake since I don't floor it too often.

Thanks for the help, i appreciate it

You have the right idea with the lower duration cams, even a 20x/21x cam wouldn't hurt you. Looked into going 4.56 gears?

I have a 218/222 .544 113lsa in my 6.0 rclb HD. it does pretty well with my truck being a bit heavy. I still find myself wanting a 3000 stall verter, but it does alright as is. I'm on some heavy *** wheel/tires as well. Should do even better on some stock wheels. Tuning these trucks is definitely the best mod though, they are EXTREMELY detuned from the factory. I'd say go with the tune first then do some more mods and retune after that. My cam chops up really good for the size that it is, I just put up an idle vid last week if you want to search for it.

I have an 04 Crew cab, 4wd, 3/4 ton.

I made my own efan harness, and put on a set of 05 and up truck fans
TrueCool 40k GRW cooler
So far, I started out with a 224/230 581 .592 -110 cam
Then the TB SS intake
Next was 1-7/8 Stainless headers - with Dual DMH cutouts
Then 42 lb injectors
L92 top end with LS3/LS9 throttle boody
I lost 2nd gear a few months later, rebuilt the trans, TransGo HD2 shift kit, Circle D 3K stall

bought a heavier boat, now it has a 212/218 .522 .529 -114

The tune make the biggest difference, I still have the stock cats and stock muffler on it. I'm getting 16-18 on the freeway . . . 9-10 city

I've got a few vids of me beating the crap out of it on youtube . . . user name is txtootall

Yea tootall I've seen your vids of your truck before and love the way it sounds, did it idle ok in traffic with the 110 LSA?

I'm not wanting anything in the 22x's. I've dem thinking about the Vinci butt kicker or the SDPC HT1 I believe it's called.

I used to have the 212/218 high lift comp cam in my 2dr but traded it out for the tr224 ( pulled way harder up top). But would the 212/218 Low lift really be better down low than the high lift version?

I'm looking for some budget heads, any ideas? Is it worth the trouble for milling stock 317s?

idle and sitting in traffic is all in the tune . . . if your tuner can get it to work great, then you need a different tuner

the 110 was just fine. I drove the truck everywhere . . . everyday. The wife was the only one that didn't like it, no naturally, I didn't listen.

the 212/218 high lift pulls much harder . . . I recently put the high lift in a H2 hummer. I had it ground on a 112 vs the 115.

It's really up to you and what the truck is used for . . . I ran the 224/230 for sometime with the stock stall

Milling the heads isn't going to do much with performance, just a bump in compression and shorter push rods. PRC heads come up for sale all the time . . .
