Hey, if anyone has done something similar in CA chime in on this. I am gonna do a 2000 silverado and i'm gonna do a 6.0 with a T56. Now, is it okay if i get a v6 truck or do i have to get a v8 for the swap to be legal. I know that whatever is newer the chassis or the motor the it has to pass to those specs. I was told by someone that i could get a P.O. box in a county that doesn't have smog, which is like 1 and only around here and register the truck to that P.O. Box, but i don't know if that will work. If i only lived somerwhere else

supposedly Pine Vally, which is like 20 miles east or so doesn't have smog from what i've heard. But i just found out from a friend that you can't use P.O. Box for register, you have to have a legal residence or something.

 

from what i heard you can do an engine swap as long as the engine your swaping in is avalable in that truck so if you were to get a v6 truck and put a 6.0 in it you would just need to get it inspected and pass smog.

 

I want to find a v6 manual so the t56 swap would go easier, but i think if the truck came with a v8 and i put in a 6.0 smog would be easier and more likely to pass. I'll just have to convert the auto to a manual, no biggie. I just need to sell mine and get me a beater somewhere, rc's are harder to find than i thought, a lot of them are 4x4's.

 

find a 4.8 manual. Your life will be easier in the long run. A 6.0 does not look any different than a 4.8, and the manual will help with your t-56 swap. Complete the swap and just keep your mods to yourself when you go to the smog station.

Yeah, 4.8 with a manual would be the best way to go. The 6.0 will bolt right in and all the electrical should fit right up too. The T56 will go right in and you would just need to get a new drive shaft, but check some of the swap treads here on PT to be sure.
Technically the 6.0 in a 1500 reg cab is not smog legal in cali. The 6.0 would be considered an engine "change", because it was not offered in that configuration from the manufacturer, an engine "replacement" is like putting a 5.3 in a truck that came with a 4.8, because it was offered in that configuration from the manufacturer. An engine "change" is supposed to get inspected at a referee station and get a BAR label that allows the vehicle to be taken to any smog check station after that. But the 6.0 is physically the same on the outside, so it will pass the visual, and it will still sniff clean, as long as all the smog equipment is there and operational at the time of the smog test.
Then, just keep all your other mods CARB legal and you shouldn't have too much problems in the future.

 

Yah but finding a 4.8 5spd is even more rare to find in a rcsb. I found one on ebay but it's 4x4, and it's the only one i've seen in the last month. I would like to find a 5spd, but most likely it's gonna be a v6, so i would rather just go get a v8 rc truck and just do the auto to manual conversion, it's gonna be easier to find the truck.
