ive done 3 motors, which doesnt make me any kind of expert what so ever...but I have used the same crank bolt 2 out of three time and never have any issues. The second time I used the GM bolt I used red loctite though. I was too cheap to go by a new bolt when the old bolt only had 400 miles on it

and as for swapping a crank while the motor is in a vehicle (any vehicle) no way! I'll pay to see this done and done correctly. Its to easy to pull the motor and put it on a stand

 

Well ended up picking up a new crank for $125. Got new main and rod bearings also. Should have it swapped in the next couple weeks.

 

What do you heat up? the balancer or the end of the crankshaft?

Heating it works great, done it a few times. Just took a torch to the outside of the hub briefly to heat it up and slip it right on.
