Pennzoil Platinum here as well, kicked the **** out of the Mobil 1 I ran after 6k miles according to Blackstone...swapped it into my wife's Acadia as well since it's DI and the results were even more pronounced. As far as the 0W oil comments, nothing wrong with running it especially in colder weather. Never had a problem with it and have nearly 200k of trouble free miles. Average almost 1 mpg more with it as well due to what I'm assuming are frictional losses. At operating temps, there's not much difference between them as they both fall in the 30w range and from a mechanical standpoint, I measured less than 2 psi between them on the stock pump. On the low temp range, you have to specify what temps you're looking at because of the variances in flow, additives, etc.
Tolerances are also not nearly what they were years ago, and bearings are far superior in composition so you don't need such a huge cushion unless you're talking about heavily modded/racing applications where greatly increased loads, additional clearances, and extended high rpm run times are anticipated or seen. Just look at the thin factory oils used on warrantied new vehicles, ones that are in the range or surpass that of what many of us currently run. If the OEM has used them, they passed muster in durability testing, and they will warranty an engine for 100k, I'm not too concerned with the thinner weights especially considering my experiences using it myself. Just my .02

GM states oil consumption of one quart per thousand miles is within spec.
I read that on a Chevy truck owner's site this morning. My oil issues have lessened somewhat sincemy head replacement but coupled with what I read this morning I feel pretty good.

If that was normal the engine would be sucking air on most of these extended OCI synthetics.

All the manufacturers are cheaping out as far as what's "in spec". BMW used to say OCI was 3k, tranny flush-50k but suddenly it's okay for an OCI of 15k and transfer fluid is good forever!
Luckily my dad taught me better. I sure do miss him!
