I run Rotella 5w40, as was said, great bang for the buck.

Mobile 1 FTW!

Put almost 50k on my last truck and ran Mobile 1 the whole time. When I parted it out pulling the heads, cam, lifters, etc... it was absolutely immaculate!

I run 15W40 in gas engines, even in -40* (same in Celsius and Fahrenheit). So don't worry too much about running too thick of an oil. I switched my LQ4 over to 10W30 this winter, just to see how it compares to last winter running Rotella 15W40. It's only been slightly below freezing here lately, so it hasn't been cold enough to tell the real story.

I have always found that thin oils would cause more noise on cold startups, as thicker oil might stay in the top end longer, but I haven't looked into any of it and just speculate based on what I've experienced.

I use Amsoil 5w-30 100% synthetic signature series oil and the long 6.0L oil filter on my 5.3L. Switching to 10w-30 to see if it helps quite down my valvetrain a little bit.

black00, I just did the same thing on mine, switched to 10w30 yesterday. I started it up and initially it had a little lifter noise. HOWEVER, after a cruise around town and then about a 100 mile round trip today I have to say it's much quieter. Pressure is up a bit too at cruising speed which I'm happy with. It was down around 35psi cruising at 65 before (ofcourse it had been 6500-8000 miles since I'd changed it too)

I use mobil1 now but previously i always used valovine simply because it was the clearest coming out of the bottle. I tried some rotella once, i hated the freaking smell so i have never used it again.

i run royal purple with half a bottle of stp oil treatment. you lose power running a thicker oil.

Would you rather loose a fraction of a % in hp, or make sure your oil is thick enough to protect everything and keep oil pressure up? Ive never been a fan of 0w oil.
