another e-fan question (long)
#1
ok i figured out how i want to hook up my lt1 fans. i bought a on/off/on switch. i want to have the fans run off of the thermostat when the truck is on and in the first on position. then be able to leave the fans on all the time when i switch to the second on position.this is when the key is still in the ignition and in the acc. position. the be able to turn them off the fans no matter if the truck is on or off.so i just got the flex-a-lite thermostat kit in. it didnt come with any relays or even an inline fuse. i thought i would need two for this instalation. my question is how do i run the fans like this. i kind of have an idea but then i dont. like on the relay i know that 30 goes to the red box by the alternator, and the 87 goes to the fans. but what are the 85 and 86 for? i know one is a ground just not sure which one. and also on the switch there is no ground. just aac#1/power source/and acc#2. so how do i ground the switch. if this is too complicated i am just going to hook it up like the instructions say with the flex-a-lite kit.

I just installed my LT-1 fans today. I bought a $25 kit at the local auto parts store that included a temp probe preset at 185/165. The cool part is that the relay had two fan outputs! Hey for $25 I was getting enough stuff for both fans and a temp switch.
Well, the temp switch is a no go. It just doesn't work (and it is wired correctly). And the inline fuse holder on 1 of the fan hot wires just came off in my hand as I was taping up the wiring harness
Tomorrow I will install the new $18 adjustable temp switch that I just bought and see what happens.
Oh, the reason I replied is that the kit has two options for turning on the fans: the included POS temp switch, and an A/C or manual switch lead that will override the temp switch. All on 1 relay.

Guys, I'm sorry I haven't had time to draw up that new schematic yet but here is the one of how I have mine hooked up right now if it helps any. I currently have them running off a thermo switch in the ENG position and have a manual switch in the cab wired in the ACC position. Here it is:

I will try and get to that new schematic tomorrow.
