gotta love mid-80's cyl head technology in an overpriced package

just swap intakes, get a tune, and enjoy

I wouldnt use either of those engines, the 1st 1 is a ZZ4, it uses the aluminum L98 heads which wont fit in a Vortec truck.

The 2nd is a 383 that cheaps out and uses a flat tappet cam.

Much better to use the HT 383.

regardless, there is still a lot of grey area as to what he wants.
why does he want a crate engine vs. some simple mods?
The way you stated your answer, who would have known you were referring JUST to hp gains.

LS6 springs, are you sure about that?? Not disagreeing at all, there are folks that run the Comp 915 and 918 beehive springs on the L31 Vortec head.

Will teh LS6 springs and retainers fit on the L31 heads and valves??

Thanks man,

i guess these are exactly the reasons that i hate crate engines. i am the onlyone that builds my engines, regardless of mild/wild.

thanks for all the help so far, all ideas are great, i want to try to get at least 350hp from the rear wheels at this time, i was hoping on the just bolt an engine in and not do no work. i dont want to cut, grind, weld, press, fit or any other mcguyver ****. im done with all that. ive done only oldsmobiles and monte ss engine, at this point recommend me to a bolt in solution.

keep em coming, thanks so much

383 short block, e-tec 200 heads, and a lt1 hot cam kit. should all work pretty well together. just have to check retainer and valve clearances.

kevin

ps: check with afr for a l31 intake pattern head, they will make more power than the edelbrocks.
