Default 6.0 swap - cam, exhaust, and other questions (kinda long)

Allrighty, I plan to eventually do some sort of 6.0, and I wanna start planning now. I'm not going for low e.t. of the world, I just really want a 6.0, and I'm piecing it together as funds allow (it's going to be a long project, on a budget). I've got myself some 317 heads and I'm gonna start looking for a shortblock, and I need to figure out what cam and exhaust setup I'm gonna go with...and converter. The truck is my daily driver and only form of transportation, so I can't make it too sick but I still want it to be decent and fairly lopey I also plan to stick with the 4L60E, just have it built (maybe wait till it breaks and do it and an Eaton posi all at once).

As far as the cam goes, I was thinking Thunder Racing TR224 (224/224 .563/.563 112) and matching that with a converter in the 2500-3000 range. I can probably get my hands on a TrailBlazer converter for a decent price, if you all think that'll be a good match with that cam.

Now for the exhaust...

First off, I wanna be able to hear it...the Gibson is too tame for me. Next, it's a 4x4, so PaceSetters are out (although by the time I'm ready, they might not be) and StainlessWorks doesn't know if their LT's will fit 99's. Also, New Jersey does visual inspections, so it has to at least look like I have cats on there. Lastly, I really like having duals out the back, just for the way it looks. Here's an idea I've had...

ASM long tubes going into true duals with dummy cats, an x-pipe and Hooker AeroChambers. I'm leaning towards a set-up like this, as I think it will provide the best performance and sound for the 6.0. I also considered some sort of system I can bolt on myself, such as Dynatech's into a Magnaflow or other cat-back, but it seems to me like it'll be real expensive for something that is intended for a 4.8-5.3, and not as free flowing as the above mentioned set-up.

I'm taking all suggestions, and I have plenty of time, as I don't have plenty of money

Thanks all!!

Your truck will be sick when you get this project rolling!

The TR224 seems to be pretty popular in 6.0s, but I think most run either the TCI SF3000 or Yank TT3000 with it.

Have you thought about the new Magnaflow true dual exhaust system? Or the SS head pipe and Magnaflow set up like Creederado did on his GMC? Both exit split under the bumper like you want, and they use the smaller case Magnaflows so it won't be as quiet as mine is.

Didn't know about the Magnaflow true dual system, that's definitely a consideration. I've been thinking about the dual head pipe system like creed has...wonder if it will work on a 4x4 rcsb with long tubes? I guess with some trimming anything's possible.

joelvette: I should be able to swap my accessories right over, but if I need anything I'll definitely shoot you an email

Thanks for the input so far...keep it coming!!

Setup sounds very similar to my current one. If I had one thing to do differently(which I will in the next few months), it would be to step up alittle higher than my 3000 stall. My 3000 is very tame on the street, so you might want to stay in that range. Other than that, I've been very pleased with my setup. I also really like the Thorley LTs I'm running. Magnaflows sound awesome on the 6.0L with LTs. You'll have no problems running the TR224 on a daily driver, and when the motor is warmed up good, you get a sweet lope going at every stop. It will definately turn some heads.

Here's some info on the Magnaflow true dual. Now I'm not sure if it made it into production.

Man, now that would be nice....got this gut feeling that that setup is stuck in purgatory with the PaceSetter 4x4 headers though

slowprocess, thanks for posting up man, I was hoping you'd have some input...plus, your screen name describes this project perfectly. How do you think the Thorley's would compare to ASM's? I've never used tri-y headers before...

the DynaTech's seem nice, but I just can't get over that wierd looking hump

ap2002, how's that catless Borla sound?

My brother got his Dynatechs for his Ram this week. He hasn't installed them yet but he said they look beautiful and very well made.
