6.0 build for blower
#91
Thanks Jonblarc it really is that easy.
So it idles and actually putts around my block very well for the very first start tune. Kudos to Atomics tuning skills
. I also have his poly motor mounts in this and was really worried this cam and those mounts would ruin DDing this truck however it's the complete opposite! There's maybe a 5% increase in cabin vibrations and that's probably just the cam.
Anyway I've had 3 Summit Racing brand AN fittings leak on me throughout this build and I know it's the fittings because when I put a Vibrant brand fitting on it's completely fixed. So my main fuel feed is leaking and I'm waiting in fittings as well as my front main seal. Somehow I missed the memo about needing to swap seals to the Innovators blower hub seal of you buy the HD blower hub damper.
I feel extra stupid but I'd rather have the front cover leak then the motor not have oil pressure or worse.
The other good news is the Dual friction Center force clutch is quiet and feels as soft as stock to me.
Heres a terrible video I'll try to get a better one posted up in a few days. Thank you all for the help along the way!

Also might I add during the first start up/break in as soon as I saw oil pressure which was about 1 second maybe 2. I held the rpm around 1700 for 10 minutes and for the first 30 seconds to a minute it sounded kinda rough as if the rings weren't seated or a couple lifters weren't pumped up. Not a knocking noise more like piston slap/exhaust leak. But it cleared up quickly and the motor sounds stock quiet at idle with the cutout closed.

nice setup!
interested to see what your HP/TQ numbers are, i have a cousin putting together a lq4 for a 04 rcsb that he wants to slap a blower on was actually talking tonight about turning it into a 408
anywho, what compression did you end up at and how much boost you planing on forcing in to it?

I need drive shafts before I dyno but it is definitely in the plans. I'd be tickled if it somehow squeaked out 600whp. Compression should be right at 10 to 1 with 64cc heads and LS9 gaskets it will be sipping only the finest pump 93. Using Atomics "Blower pulley size boost guesstimator-thingymabobber" I have a 2.8 pulley that should make 9-10psi and a 2.6 that could push towards 12psi. I wish I had a bigger blower but if I did I would have waited and saved for a forged 370. The old 4.8 might become a forged 383.

Been fighting a few issues here and there and taking my time plumbing stuff and rerouting things to look a nicer and be easier to work around. I finally got it into 70% throttle and around 6psi in third gear. It began to spin the tires at 55-60% throttle so I tapped it a bit more to be sure and sure enough sideways it went. So stoked! The 33in BFGs are getting pretty worn at this point but a strange goal I had for the new motor was to be able to smoke the tires in third on command AMD it seems to do so. Might sound stupid but it's not a build dedicated to the drag strip just all around street fun. Since the gear ratios are so low the next set of tires will likely be 35s and C range so the sidewall has more give and to save a few pounds each tire. Eventually I'll get a budget drag pack but I'm not sure the 10b will like that.
Also got about 15 or 20 miles of testing on it so far without any strange sounds or smells. Cam sounds great with the cutout open and when closed it's as silent as a stock 5.3. Can't wait to get the tune 100% ironed out and give her the beans. Working on getting some video but since 99% of the time it's just me in a tin can shop it's hard to get any footage that sounds decent.

good job finding a non-bargain 35" in anything but E-range nowadays...
same for the 34s we just bought for my wife's & the 33s i'm about to get for mine.
ps - this is new trans got me thinking of doing 35s on mine... but i don't wanna lift it.
so i looked into 34s... but my bars are cranked enough already, and i don't feel like notching my wheel liners or cutting the bumper valence.
so i think i'm staying with 33s and going back to my 3.73 gears.

I was shocked I could get a set of 315/70/17 KO2s in load C and for less than the price of a kidney. (Not technically 35s but if you squint its good enough).
First gear just a little to much?
Did you get the shifting issue sorted? I have the newer part number master and Atomics clutch bracket on the way for the Tahoe.
I think 373s with 33s would be perfect! Tons of low end with first, lower rpm in OD and when towing in 4th it wont be screaming at 3k. The 408 Denali has 373s with stock sized tires still and if he went up to 33s I think it would be the perfect tire size gear ratio for that trans.

Check out kelly safari TSR.
they are a D rating but they last a long time, alot cheaper the bfg and not overly heavy.
I have 315s on the wifes Tahoe and I put her old set that has 130k on them on my truck till I get some new ones.

Why all the E Range hate? I like having E range tires, they can take 65-80psi if Im towing "heavy" (for a 1/2t) and I can drop to 11ish and not worry about popping a bead if I am smart off road
To each their own I suppose. Sucks we cant fit 35s without stupid lifts or hacking our bodies
