Default Is a 220r enough

07.5 1500 with the 5.3, I am running 35 inch tires and 4.56 gears. I am looking at doing the prc stg 2.5 heads and they reccomended the 220/220 .581/.581 112LSA cam and a 3000-3200 convertor. Do you think this is enough cam to make it worth it or would yall step it up a bit?

what about the tourq V3? I know I would need the dual springs and whatnot but if im going to do something i like to do it right. What size stall would I need? How much power do you think this head and cam combo would bring me?

228R will make more peak power but it will also move your powerband up in the rpm range. Likely, it wouldn't start making power until 3000rpm. Smaller duration cams work better in smaller engines because they produce more low end torque. TQR3 would need at least a 3500 stall in a truck and probably wouldn't start making power until that same RPM.

Speaking from EXPERIENCE, unless you are building a 7000 RPM race motor in a 3000 lb race car, small cams work better in smaller motors.

i agree. especially with a small motor in a truck with 35" tires. it is geared right, but those tires still weigh a ton. down low torques is what you're after. i would consider going a little smaller than a 220/220 but it will work.

I've got a tsp 220 in my truck. Circle d 3200 and cal speed longtubes and fbo. It has a 6 inch rcx NTD lift and 285/75/17 (34) tires with 4.56's. I wish I had a little more low end. Or some 4.88's! I'd def look into the 212/218 over the tsp 220.

No problem. I didn't take it as that, just wanted to make sure you were informed from someone who has been in your shoes before.

212/218, as said earlier, would not be a bad idea either. Although I would move the LSA down to a 112 or 113. We can get you fixed up with that as well.

I am going to go opposite then everyone, if you are willing to go with a bigger converter then I would defanitly go more cam.
I ran a TSP220 with a 3200 and yeah it was fun but it didn't take long till I wanted more

My 4.8 with a 220 cam, 4.10s, 3200 stall lacks some lowend. Most guys go big and are left wondering why it doesnt run like they "thought" it would.
