Here is a picture of the servo installed into the case. If you look you can see the slots/openings that are in the case. Some cases only have 1 but all cases do have only 1 groove for the snap ring. Enjoy...Vince.

The slots on this case are at the 3 and 6 oclock position. The opening for the snap ring is about 1 oclock in this picture. Just a little FYI.

I read the horror stories about the installs too.

I was afraid to get a vette servo for a while.

Then I quit kidding myself and got the part that I NEEDED for solid 1-2 shifts.

I was determined to get the snap ring in the "second" groove that I had heard about.

Everything came apart easily. But I'm seeing only 1 groove!

Unsure of what to do. I realize it's 6:30 PM and every tranny shop in the world is probably closed.

I called FLT, they answer , and assure me that I just need to be sure the groove is nice and clean, and that I need to get the ring completely seated all the way around.

It was tricky to get the ring fully seated. The first try, it was very close, but careful checking showed one end not quite in there. So I pushed the cover in and popped the ring all the way in. Its a bit tough by yourself with just a prybar, but not too hard. Then I rechecked it about 15 times, cleaned up, and checked 5 more times.

I think having the ring half seated, and/or a dirty groove is what caused the broken trannies.

Thanks again FLT

IMO, every truck needs a vette servo.
