Trans Temp Sender Location

Default Trans Temp Sender Location

hey i want to install this autometer trans temp guage and from what i have read there could be clearance issues with installing the bung and sender. before i tear everything apart i want to have the unit mounted and brazed. just wanted to know where on the pan everyone has there sending unit mounted.

4l60e stock pan depth
also installing transgo HD-2 and corvette servo

I had mine put on the front of the pan, then I grinded down the weld smooth:




Then I painted the pan:

You can also use the pressure port on the driver's side above the shift linkage. Your sender should thread right in.

Yep, that's what I did. I heard that location isn't the best for accurate readings but at least I have an idea of what my tranny temp is.

my observations show me that either place is OK.

Mine too. I also have a scan gauge that reads the factory trans temp sensor and the two are pretty close, probably within about 5 degrees of eachother.

I drilled and tapped the pan for mine. seems to work fine right there

I installed a cluster with a trans temp gauge in it but I'm told this only measures cooled fluid that has returned to the pan. I'm planning on installing a Autometer gauge as well and I'm putting the sender right in the fluid out line as close to the transmission as possible. I figure the fluid on the way out represents the actual temperature inside the tranny. You can buy a manifold from Autometer to put a sender in line.
