TBSS AWD Front drive shaft spins no movement
#1
Last week I posted that I thought I might have lost the trans in the TBSS. I put it on 4 ramps today and had a buddy watch the drive shafts in gear. The front drive shaft spins as soon as it is put in gear and does not stop until put back in to park. It is grinding like the pinion in the dif is stripped.
I am not sure how the AWD system transfers power between front and rear. So I am leaning towards the front dif being gone.
Being an AWD, would I have any movement of the vehicle if the front dif is broke?
Are there any write-ups on removing the front dif?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did we ever determine exactly what transfer case is in that? Once we know exactly what case it is then we can figure out what its properties are. Personally I would think it would try to put power to the rear but...... not sure.

This is probably a good read for you LIL SS.....

It appears you are in dead in the water if the the front shaft just spins. So your t-case and trans are probably just fine.

Uses a T3 Torsen unit instead of a viscous coupler.

Not completely sure about the SS trucks, but all the others had an intermediate shaft assembly on the right side that sheared on a regular basis. Easy fix, take the right front half-shaft out and the housing comes out in one piece with 3 or 4 bolts. Rebuild it on your garage bench, the dealer should keep parts for them since it is a common repair.
