Default Shock question

I searched this forum for about 30 minutes and cannot really get a good answer.

I am needing to replace the shocks on my 01 ECSB soon and whanted a few opinions on a good riding shock, but still good for performance.

It is just leveled in the rear at the moment, but I plan to do a 2/4 McGaughys drop this summer. So I guess I'm looking for a stock length shock.

Thanks

The big 3 seem to be

Edelbrock IAS
Belltech Nitro-Actives
KYB

I have the beltechs on the rear and am happy with them. I will be running the KYB's in the front soon, they are reputed to be a stiffer shock.

Thanks for the reply!

I have a noob question though, what is the overall difference between a softer and stiffer shock? I've never really done the whole shock thing except putting Rancho's on my lifted 81 and they came with the lift kit. I'm kind of in the dark on all of this.

The ride. A stiff shock will allow less bounce but will ride harder, a softer shock will absorb more impact and ride smooter but will allow more bounce.....did i say that right?

I would recommend buying the drop shocks now so that in the future you wont be buying another pair of shocks

If your using factory I would get the lower shocks Plus I would put the leafs back together and flip the rear another words put the leafs under the rear and that will give you a 6 inch drop and you could sell the shackles. But then you will have to c-notch the rear

If you're staying at stock height, or with the 2" shackles, then the Edelbrocks are a good shock, but personally, with any kind of a drop, I would always get a shock that is designed for a lowered ride height. Sure there are people getting away with stock shocks on drops, but you will ultimately benefit from a drop shock, such as the Belltech Nitros.

Thanks everyone, that explains alot!

I guess I'll look into the Belltech actives. I checked summit, looks to be around $200 for a set to my door.
