Really I think in HIGH PERFORMANCE any trans built by anyone will fail eventually. And any type will fail. The trick is how long and how many hard passes can you make first.and what makes the most sense economically and is still pratical.

Even the 80E fails I see a couple or three a month posted here and more in other places. When you consider the numbers. They probably are not so far off. There are I venture to say many more 100s of trucks with the 6xe than there 80e units.

Its really interesting people say you hardley ever hear of and 80e or a 400 failing or even a 350. Theres good reason. There are not that many of them out there. If for instance you read that 10 4l60e trans failed in a week(stock built whatever) and only see 1 80e posted as broken. The appearance would be the 80e had a better life expectancy. But what you dont see is there are 100 60e for every 1 4l80e out there in trucks so from what I can see the real failure rate is not so different.

Not to say the 80e is not stronger it certainly is and once over a certain power if practical it should be considered.
But when it comes down to it and I learned this as a kid from and old racer. If you play you are going to break ****. You use the best parts and know how you can so it will hold up as long as possible. But ultimatley wether its the trans or the drivesahft or the rear or the axles. Whatever if you run it enough times and continue to make more and more power over and over at some point somethings gonna give.

The old guys quote to me was "IF YOU PLAY YOUR GONNA BREAK STUFF. IF YOU BREAK STUFF YOUR GONNA PAY. IF YOU DONT WANNA PAY THEN DONT PLAY THE GAME"

He used to run street cars and full out dragsters the dragsters had to come apart every week to be checked and things replaced. He said its part of the game.

When I was a kid people complained about breaking there 350s and 400s all the time it seemed but back then they were the most common

I agree with Frank that any tranny is probably going to break if you keep pushing them. If I wasn't 4wd and already have the Level 3 I would have already gone to an 80e. I will be going to a built 80e eventually but I don't have the time or $$$ right now to do it. Hopefully the L3 will hold into the mid to low 11's so I can get kicked out of the track at least once and I will be happy with my setup. Once my truck runs a sub 11.5 I am going to switch back to my TA and see if I can get it to run mid 10's with an auto swap.

Good post frank that is what I was getting at cause I have seen several people have to rebuild 80e's. The 60 or 80 can break at any given day but you always here about 60s cause they are more of them. I have seen on here that several 80's broke and local people have broke them. You play, you pay!!!
