I have been driving my truck with the T56 almost daily for the past 3 weeks and I couldn’t be happier overall.

As I have pointed out in a previous post, I suggest keeping the automatic truck flash as the base for the tune (not going and getting a 5 speed truck flash and adjusting it). Keeping the automatic flash has allowed me to keep the tranny temp gauge working and to have cruise in 6th gear. I’m using the tranny temp gauge as an engine oil temp gauge by using an engine coolant temp sensor installed in the oiling system (in my external oil cooler lines). The tranny temp sensor and the engine coolant temp sensor have the same temperature to resistance range so they match perfectly.

The one thing with keeping the automatic tune is that it required rigging a way to signal the cruise control when the clutch is pressed, otherwise the engine will redline trying to maintain MPH.

The TAC module grounds through the brake lights (which is why people have issues with LEDs in their brake lights). The TAC module outputs 5Volts through the brake lights via pin 6 (a light blue wire), which is low enough to not “turn on” the lights but allows the cruise to be engaged. When the brakes are applied, the brake switch applies 12Volts into the brake light system. Because 12Volts is higher than 5Volts, the brake voltage effectively “blocks” the 5Volts from the TAC thereby “cutting” the ground from the TAC and disengaging the cruise.

With this information in mind, my solution was patch the TAC module output from pin 6 through the clutch pedal position switch. It goes in through pin A and back out through pin B. With the clutch released, the current can flow through the clutch pedal position switch and continue to ground through the brake lights (as factory). When the clutch is pressed, the switch opens and “cuts” the ground path. This provides a fast response on releasing the cruise control.

Ok... I have an early 2000 with the square crossmember. Can I use the 5 speed from 99-2000 or do I have to modify this one? I came up with a part # of 15741709 for a 99 5 speed crossmember, can anybody tell me it this is correct???
