OK so, I have a question (or two) and didn't find an answer in the searches...

Can you swap to a manual and keep your 4wd? I want a Manual Trans something fierce BUT, i do not want to loose my 4wd... I am willing to buy a manual Transfer case from some place like Atlas if need be but, I need to find out first if it can even be done.

Plus having the turbo set up and big tires (33x14r18) i need to makes sure that a Manual will take the abuse it would get... Also, waht happens to towing? Do you loose all towing ability?

THanks guys

I've never heard of some one with a t56 and 33's . . . you can always run a devoiced transfer case . . . 203 (chain) or a 205 (gear) . . . or the bomb proof atlas 2

I just really want to go Manual, I miss having a manual trans and my truck would be ssoooo fun with a manual... I have to believe a manual would increase MPG a little too...

I have 4.56 gears so, that should give the trans help dealing with the Tires. I don't have aproblem doing a dif trans if the T-56 won't be up to the task... Any suggestions on that?

AS for the transfer case, i do not use 4wd for launch or anything like that. It gets used in slippery conditio and playing off road and I don't beat on my truck off road...

then get an SSR tranny from an 05 or 06. it has a larger output shaft than even the viper conversions, and internally ive been told and read it is stronger than the viper t56. i mean it was designed for a 5200lb truck with 400hp 6.0.....

OK so, I have it figured out! For what i want to do i will run a an NV4500 5spd, these were made for the 5.7 and Diesels so it is made for power in big trucks. Plus it is supossed to work with the Autotrac Transfer case! w00t!

Gear Ratios (very similar to the 4L80e)
1st....................................5.61:1
2nd...................................3.04:1
3rd....................................1.67:1
4th....................................1.00:1
5th.......................................75:1
Reverse.............................5.04:1

Basic Specs
*Heavy duty top loading
*Fully synchronized
*Cast iron case
*Aluminum top cover
*Dual PTO ports
*All helical gears
*Granny low first gear for towing or off-road
*Fifth gear overdrive for good gas mileage
*Rated Gross Vehicle Weight...HD: 16,000 pounds, LD: 15,000 pounds
*Rated Gross Combined Weight...HD: 21,000 pounds, LD: 19,000 pounds

Advanced Adapters makes the Bellhousing and clutch/Flywheel parts to make the transmission fit the 5.3L... I think my biggest issue is going to be the clutch pedal, not ure if my Avalanche is going to be as easy to mount one in as the Silverados but, I won't let that stop me from having a Manual...

So, lets see... I need the following parts from what i have read on here, please correct my list if i have any mistakes.

New Venture
- NV4500 Transmission w/upgrades

Advanced Adapters
- Bellhousing
- Flywheel/Clutch/Throwout Bearing kit

GM Parts
- Pedal #15027983
- Cross Member #15748078 (Maybe but, good to have on hand)
- Column Shifter Cover #26072994
- Truck Hydrolic Clutch Lines??? If yes, Part number???

Custom
- Adjustable linkage for Clutch Pedal
- Custom Hydrolic Clutch Lines???
- P.I.T.A. Wiring modifications to the Auto's "Black Box"

good info but I think you meant to say that the 2nd-5th is similar to a 4l60e. The 4L80e is 2.48-1.48-1.00-.75
4L60e 3.06-1.63-1.00-.70

The NV4500 is used on 2500's with the 6.0 liter motor so I am not sure that you will need any adapters to make it fit the 5.3 liter motor.
