Manual Shifting Question....
#1
Is it just me or does anyone elses vehicle feel much stronger in first gear if you shift it manually. I know that kinda sounds retarded since it starts in first and shifts at the same point anyway, but I can notice a difference. What gives, what is different when the selector is in 1 instead of 3rd?

When the gear selector is in manual 3, 2, or 1. The overrun clutch is applied. Which keeps the output shaft from overrunning the input shaft. (engine braking).
Also, to note. Manual 2 keeps the transmission in 2nd, even when pulling out.

If i put my truck in 2 it takes off in 2. It does not got 1,2. It takes off like a dog. It is very noticable when trying to take off

Yea, its setup to pullout in 2nd. Basically its for those wierd situtations where you dont want torque (slippery roads). Although, the PCM will override this when a WOT condition occurs.
And about the engine breaking. Without the Overrun clutch applied, assuming you are running downhill. The output shaft of the transmission can actually spin faster than the input shaft (faster, meaning faster than it should be given what gear its in) Reason for this ability is in the Forward Sprag. The overrun clutch prevents the sprag from "overrunning."
Overrun Clutch is applied in the following conditions:
- Manual First
- Manual Second
- Manual Third (not applied during first and second, only when in third)
Sorry if i'm not explaining it well, its one of those things its hard to explain unless you know how these transmissions work inside out. And i never understood it until i took my 4L65 apart and held everything in my own hands.
