Problem with that setup is that you run the risk of over-extending the pistons in the caliper when the pads wear down.

The rotors I have came off of a crew cab Z-71 silverado, but I'm not sure if it had dual or single piston calipers...

 

what about avalanches? can the avalanche use this upgrade?

 

I would say if its a pre- 05 model then the front upgrade will work, not sure what rear calipers you have, check them out and let us know.

 

I'm looking to do the SUV upgrade in the back and the 05+ upgrade in the front. I'm looking into the Baer DecelaRotor OE Replacement Brake Rotors. They make a 12.8" rotor for the front that has a width of .790" BUT they offer a rotor for an 04 model that measures 12.98" and has a thickness of 1.18". My question is wouldn't the 04 model be better?? Or does summit just have these rotors under the wrong category?

 

I think I answered part of my own question. The larger one for the 04 is to be used with 4 wheel steering models. But still.. wouldn't this be a better upgrade for the front?

 

Logically it would, but what else would you need to align with the rotor? I'm assuming it's more than just a bracket since the thicknesses are so different, so you'll probably need a different caliper too I would imagine.

How much are they asking for the baer decelarotors?

 

I guess you would need the loaded caliper (just as the back upgrade) to make the 4 wheel steer brakes work in the front. I'm a little confused with the 05+ front upgrade most people do though.. do they retain their calipers and just get a new bracket and rotor??

 

Yes, you do need a new caliper for the 05 front upgrade. I was looking into it for awhile but just ended up getting a 14" oversized rotor and bracket kit with braided lines instead, and I have all the braking I could need.
