Default Gear size question

I think I have finally made up my mind on the direction I want to go for now.

I just got off the phone with thunder racing and after that conversation I'm kind of confused.

I inquired about the TR220 cam and told him my plans (LT's,YankTT3000, E-fans, etc.) He asked if I had a gear and I told him I was going to get a 4.11 to go with my Eaton posi sitting on my table. He told me that with my setup I would be better off going wiht a 4.56 gear.

Heres my truck specs:

2001 Silverado ECSB 4.8L 255/70/R16 tires (30" tire according to calculator). Normal boltons with the above stuff in the works.

Do I really need more than a 4.11 in my truck? I was told that it would be a dog off the line with that stall and cam. The reason for the larger cam is I intend to go with a 6.0 in the near future, so for now I can live with it.

Thanks, going to order most of this stuff in the next few days (LT's already ordered)

I think 4.56 is overkill for a 30" tire. I had 4.11's with my 31" tires and was happy. I think you should ultimately match the stall rating to the cam, not the gear ratio.

It's a TR220 cam on either a 112 or 114, still have to talk to wheatley (called earlier but no answer) on the mail order "tuneability" of the 112.

I have been reading alot and the majority seems to go TT3000 and is happy with it.

Simplicity I guess...lol

With me moving in a little while it makes sense to keep the truck somewhat in-tact and useable. Once I get settled in the new place I may start searching for the swap parts again. It looks like I may be able to get my own shop as well, so that will be a plus.

Keep in mind too that 4.56:1 gears in a 10 bolt makes for a very small pinion gear. The additional first-gear torque means more for the differential and axle shafts to deal with too, if you can get traction.

I would probably just get a little bigger stall as opposed to going with a 4.56. Maybe something like a 3400-3600. If you don't want to do that, I would just do the 4.11 and wait for the 6.0
