Eaton or Powertrax ??
#1
I am building a 383 and will have some serious traction nightmares with my current one wheel wonder.
I am looking at two different locker set ups, the Eaton or the Powertrax. Any suggestions or comments? Also I don't know how many splines my axles have, is there anyway to find out without having to tear it all apart? All I know is that I for sure have a 10 bolt with 3.42's. PLEASE VOTE

Avoid Powertrax lockrite or no slip, I have broken 3 Lock rites. I have had better lucjk with factory G80's over the Powertrax units.
I tried to save some money up front, but I should have gotten a Truetrac, Eaton or auburn off teh hop.
teh powertrax makes horrible noises and introduces much driveline slop. Sometime steh ABS will activate witout warning, bad setup IMO and in the opinion of others also.

Eaton- all the way. I used to sell this stuff for a living and for street strip daily drivers they are the best unit. 19559-01 is what you will need. You will also need some special bearings(lm102949/lm102910) if this is for your 96 truck since the Eaton uses the better 99-up bearing surface diameter. Yours will also be 30 spline like the newer trucks and can actually use the same diff if you use the proper bearings.
The powertrax no-slips and Lock-rite's are good budget units because they are super easy to install since you dont need to remove or install the diff case or mess with the back lash, but they are actually weaker than a stock limited slip because most reuse the factory open case and add the stress of a locker to it.

I have never had a noise problem or breaking problem with my powertrax no slip. The powertrax lockrite is junk but the no slip cost as much as an eaton posi just easier to install. I personally pefer the powertrax. I have had mine for over 2 years now and no problems
