Tim, check out this thread. It may answer some of your questions about size & durability. Coil-overs done!! - Duramax Diesels Forum

That is why I made solid bushings or just use the bearing type from QA1. The D-Max really needs the 1000lb springs.

I hit a stretch of road last night, that I hated to drive in the Denali. Didn't get a hard bump or rattle in my truck. The wife even said that this was my BEST mod yet...

Thanks Roger! You planning on doing this to your Dmax?

I like it.....alot. How long have you been running it like that? Be interested to see how the upper shock mounts hold up! I know ridetech does a similar thing but runs 1500 series t-bars. I'm in for updates!

I have only been running them for a week. I installed a wide washer on top and bottom of the upper mount area to disperse the load better. I am not against welding a plate on top for more thickness but I don't believe it is needed..

I've had the same idea as you but was thinking if I ever had the stones to do it I'd somehow design a heavy steel top plate that overhangs either side of the perch, have the ears bent down so that in addition to re-enforcing the top of the shock mount, they run along the side of it (maybe perfectly or at a 45deg angle). then you could either weld that to some flat stock that lays flat against the frame or bolt it to some L stock in a similar fashion. thoughts?

In my research, I believe the shock itself to be the weak point. I talked with QA1 and they said that their housing's and ends will handle the weight. The shock I used is designed for high tension springs. I thought of all types of elaborate designs. I even tried to see if the F150 coilover setup from Rancho would work. ( it won't fit) I decided that the easiest route would be the first route.

Drove down Gelhorn Drive today at 35mph. (Road in front of S and S.) All you guys familiar with Houston know this road for it's excellent rock crawling terrain. Truck drove perfect and NO failures. With the torsion bars I would have changed lanes 3 times at this speed.....
