Eaton certainly gets my vote...or anything that uses clutches. Tru-Trak is garbage in my book, and a locker would be a pain in the ***. O'yea, anything with auburn on it is garbage too.

What would perform better on the street? Trying to get the power to the ground .

I like my Trutrac, but it locks up real easy...I like it, but some people might not like dragging the inside tire when turning at stop lights.

Eaton's are good too.

+1. I've been running my eaton posi through 5 years of hell and it keeps going.

Be forwarned that Eaton now makes quite a of these traction aids.
Eaton LSD with clutches,. Eaton refers to this clutch style as the "LSD Posi" comes stock with 400lb preload clutch springs, 200 lb and 800 lb. preload springs are available. The 200 and 400 lb preload springs use teh carbon fiber clutches, but the 800 lb preload springs do NOT use carbon fiber clutches.

The Eaton Detroit Truetrac uses no clutches, but uses gears and torque bias adjusts based on available traction. If 1 wheel is in the air, the ebrake may need to be applied in order to move the vehicle. This type of traction aid has the ability to apply power to the ground when coming out of corners under power.

The Eaton Detroit Locker is a true locker, and will ratchet when cornering. It will also affect steering tracking when taking gentle bends that arent sharp enough to cause the locker to unlock and ratchet. The truck feels like it wants to go straight and fights your steering inputs.

The Powertrax lock rite is very similar to the Detroit, except it simply replaces sider and side gears and an open dif. is required in order to be able to install it. The Lock rite introduces substantial slop into teh drive line, while driving in a lower gear like 1st or 2nd and you apply and release the throttle there is play in the rearend. Since this unit is installed in a stock carrier, no strength benefits are realized unlike teh others that use an aftermarket carrier which adds strength. I went through 3 Lockrites, and busted 1 stock carrier in 1/2.

If the stock G80 Gov lock was stronger and more predictable in its application and release, it would be a great traction aid.

The Trailblazer SS uses a 14 bolt 9.5" semi float rear, and uses a clutch type LSD. IIRC it is RPO G86 although I have never actually seen a G86 unit, I ASSUME its similar to the Eaton carbon clutch style LSD.

Here is a pic that compares the Eaton Trutrac against a stock GM 8.5/8.625" open carrier. Substantial strength differences.

If I am understanding this correctly, the Auburn cone type LSD is NOT rebuildable. There are a couple types.

Some of these electric of air actuated lockers may be the answer, but they appear to be on/off with no in between. They are also quite a bit more expensoive.
