was looking through a tranny parts book the other day...saw one...crossed the number to a Wix...we had it in the warehouse...
this isn't the remote mount, spin-on type...just an in-line magnetic filter for trannies and power steering lines...

anyone ever use one?
is it overkill?

keep your trans lines as solid piece as you can get...magnets are in the trans to begin with

leaks is what I was thinking originally as well...
I tend to agree with Vince's take on them...

Little added advise. Many builders that do not do a good job in cleaning their valve bodies and parts, like these to help reduce future valve body issues. Most guy's that install these have issues and that is why they like them. If you were to install one, I would only do it after a trans failure and as mentioned above do not cut up your cooler lines to install one. If you are running an exturnal cooler that would be a good place to mount it for a short period of time and then remove it. This will help prevent any metal or debris that might not have been flushed out of a cooler after a trans failure. Vince
