Default 4L80E spline question

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a backup tranny and this guy is telling me there were 80E's that had a different output shaft spline count. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This particular one is a '99 4x4 tranny with the top center bolt hole. Strange.

Thats the first I have heard of that, I know there are different length output shafts but never heard of a different number of splines.

Drugs will do that to you. 32 spline should be the output on a 4L80E

The only difference is the shaft length between 2WD and 4x4. There are some other minor differences as well.

There are more then two shaft lengths, but I am not sure what the others are for. There is good website that lists all the trans parts but I forget what it is, Vince told me about it.

Edit- Found the site, there are different lengths for different years I guess. I am actually seeing 6 different lengths. wit trans .com

All depends on what it was installed in. Slip yoke vs Bolt on yoke, 4x4, the mechanical brake drum on the 1 ton box vans and so on down the line.... LOL

The difference in the lengths is for a trans parking brake assembly. All regular 2wd length and 4wd shaft lengths are the same. Also all have the same spline count.

So 2WD and 4x4 are different lengths but your saying all 2WD has the same length and all 4x4 are the same length???

I was under the impression there was a slight variation in slip on yoke Vs. bolt on yoke length.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I kinda figured he was out to lunch. Will go pick it up tomorrow. I'm going to rebuild this one myself. I have the shift kit already but can anyone recommend a good rebuild kit with Kolene steels?

Yes that is correct. The changes start when GM bolted the parking brake.
