Default 2005 Chevy Crew Cab.. What axle ?

Best guess is a 10 bolt 8.5" but I am not sure.. Anyone know for sure what was offered in the crew cabs ?

It does have drum brakes (boooo.. my '02 had discs).. But I wanted to know for sure what rear end it has..

Thanks !

Todd

its a 10-bolt 8.625" unless you have a VMAX then its a 9.5" 14bolt

05 was the start for rear drum brakes

im not sure on that locker thingy on ebay ( never heard of that before) but 8.5" gears will work just different bearings or something, not sure. it cant be much of a locker for only $25. get either a detroit trutrac or a eaton lsd for a good lsd.

someone who knows what the difference between the 8.5" diff. and the 8.6" diff. PLEASE chime in.

Lockers are basically a LSD diff on steroids.. TracTech is the ones to talk to for good locker parts. They are the equivalent of a Detroit locker only a slightly different design. (you replace the spider gears with these parts and re-use your existing diff case whereas the true Detroit Locker replaces the case as well). Doing this keeps you from having to re-setup the entire rear end tolerances again.

The $25 is an awesome deal on this part, last time I checked, it was close to $450-500 for this part NEW.

The application guide specifically mentions that it WONT work with the 8.625 ring gear, I was hoping I had the 8.5" rear. I am not up on all the new(er) axle options so I didnt bid on it.. The only "bad" thing I can say is that a locker on the street can be a bit of a hassle if you are not expecting it but I can live with it for the added performance both rear wheels spinning instead of one.

i know about lockers but that didnt look like genuine detroit stuff but if know what the product is its all good.

no reason for a locker unless its a pure offroad rig. the detroit TT will lock both up just fine and unlock them when needed

Yeah, I guess I am just a little hard on the throttle in my truck, the one wheel peel gets old when its raining or even mild throttle pressure around a corner in my truck. I don't even have a Gov-Lock Garbage Posi in it, its literally wide open rear end so I figured if I could score a bargain like that I can live with it and KNOW that I have true traction in the back. Last weekend I went down to a friends house and we took his boat out, if I hadn't had the auto-trac in Auto mode it would've been a smoke show getting the boat out of the water.

the tru trac is awesome. ive got about 4000 miles on my toyo proxes and theyre bald. and i had yet to look in the mirror and see a one wheel peel.

i wouldnt worry about traction problems with it
