That's scary to think your pushing 600/600 on something that looks so stock! It's gotta be a dead give away with the whine right? It's not a total sleeper?

Damn dude. I've been there. I made the decision to sell my turbo sys. when I had the heads off with solid copper gaskets, oringed block, head studs, 6psi boost and it was still lifting the heads. My choice was $2000 for a set of aftermarket heads with a 3/4" deck surface or sell the turbo and break even on it and not have the headaches.

Custom turbo systems are not for daily drivers unless you have the time and patience to work through the issues.

I hope you keep it though. It should be a beast.

If the combination is built right it can be DD and very reliable.Lifting heads at 6lbs indicates another problem.Dans truck above did 640hp/640tq in 2nd gear at 14lbs. The heads did lift but when we pulled the heads we found that the builder did not torque them at all.Since we redid the gaskets and torque'd them right it has been running 14lbs on straight pump gas and the same timing/fuel ever since with no gasket problem.
Now,the kit on this truck leaves alot to desire. There is alot of heat where it shouldn't be and alot of wires got damaged or just not hooked up right.I'm figuring we got them all now.The shop that did the work just screwed up everything.

Take a look at Matts truck on truck of the month.I garrenty that will be a problem free DD.Only problem he will have is breaking parts from too much power.

amen to that brotha. slowhawk totally bailled my *** out with this truck.

had we known how fucked up it was from the get go we could have done a totally new kit similar to Matt's. for probably less than it cost me to FIX all the problems. wifey was pumped when i told her that today, lol.

Anyway, truck is running pretty damn strong right now. i've got an exhaust leak to fix but that will be done tomorrow night. It doesn't seem to be spooling anywhere near as fast as it was when i first got it back from Dez but I'm thinking the exhaust leak isn't helping.

0-80 is amazing but the tires barely break loose, hmmm.

also just ordered a bunch of DEI header wrap and that spray **** that goes over it. Gonna pull the entire kit off the truck and neatly wrap it all, downpipe, crossover pipe, around the wastegate, and maybe the manifolds themselves. we'll see.

Good story, glad to hear it's running well. You were my inspiration to do what I did to my truck. Now you are my inspiration to do what I am going to do to my truck.

I agree that a turbo can be a reliable DD. I'm just short on spare time at the moment to work through the bugs. I was just sharing my experiences. My conclusion is oringed block with factory heads is a bad idea due to the thin deck surfaces and distortion. I realize that and appreciate your help and input when I was dealing with it.
My NA setup is a blast and is plenty for me at this moment...without the headaches.
DenaliHD-I don't doubt you are in good hands and will be very happy in the long run.

I wasn't trying to difg at you.Sorry.

We all know the time it takes to get stuff like this right, expecially your first time at it.The first custom turbo kit I did took 4-5 months with alot of changing parts. Luckilly I learned alot while doing that setup so now I can see problems before they happen. With Matt's truck I probly spent a total of 20hrs just looking at it and thinking before doing the work.Always try to be 2 steps ahead.
