The deal I got on the Garrett turbo was too good to pass up.

Devan, I think I remember my log file saying that we were doing 120+...definitely moving out. I can't even imagine the RPM that turbo was spinning, pushing 15psi into a 408ci engine turning 5700 RPM....
Here is the one I roasted on my Dmax from high egt's. Looks similar to yours.

I would have to say it was from excessive EGT's too, look at the way the gouged fins are folded back with the direction of rotation, like they got hot and started melting and just started coming off and folding back. The turbo that came with my STS kit had a turbine wheel that looked just like that when I bought it. I found a guy that had a new wheel and shaft and I just installed it, and it was still going strong last I heard. If it was from debris, the chunks of wheel would be folded forward from the contact with the debris hitting them as it "push" though the turbine. That's my thought on it any way Glad you got a new one on the way though

i agree with heat , if it was debris , it would have a couple fins folded over , then damaged , then a few good 1's , unless the piece has been embedded into the case

i would think having to make the 90 outta the head , 60 or so sweeper into the down tube , 90 to the pass side and 90 back up into the log , the 45 or so into the straight section of the log and then 90 up into the turbo woulda been enough to slow any chunks down

plus the fact the piston was still intact , as was the head , only real damage was the scoring from the piston and cylinder trying to weld themselves together , which goes with high egt's

but then what do i know , my twin t's are a table right now , lmao
