Default custom turbo kit ???

Im new to the turbo world but very interested in putting one on my 06 silverado with a 5.3. a buddy of mine is helping me with the build, since he talked me in to it and knows a lot more than i do about them. my question is about the tuning portion after installation. I've been looking at a lot of pics and installs and noticed some still use the maf and some go with a sd tune. Just wondering why and which is prefered or which will benefit me more. my truck is stock so i dont plan on goin real wild with it, just 5 to 7 psi. any help or advice greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any help.

it is up to the tuner. in the past you would max out the maf, not sure if that is still an issue or not. i think there is a way to use the maf up to a point and then let it switch over to sd for the high hp and get the best of both worlds.

at 7psi you might as well leave it in there.

Just let your tuner deal with it. leave the maf in the air tract, if he want to use it great. if he doesnt its just a coupler, that can be easily removed later.

that makes since, appreciate the help. does it matter how close or how far the maf has to be from the throttle body.

You should really be running more psi on a smaller turbo rather than the big turbo at 5-7psi. You will really love the smaller turbo on the street over a setup like parish had. I know it aggravates me when I am driving my vw and the thing barely gets out of it's own way before 3000rpm. :/ speaking from experience big turbo's are only fun if you are boosting them big. Oh yea, that's right the vw is boosting 30psi.

Keep it fairly close to the Trottle Body. Its not a BIG deal, but you do need room for a blowoff valve between the MAF and the Turbo.

3000 rpm boost isn't bad with a 3000 rpm stall

if you are just running the low boost it will be easier to tune with the maf left in

Have you looked into one of our vendors at least helping you with the hot parts? Check with kbraing96 or Trick... great guys to work with.

MAF will be fine... keep it away from curves in the ducting as much as possible... helps with turbulance and airflow.

I would also start looking into AT LEAST a shift kit for the tranny. Start saving for a forged short block... things like that especially if this is your daily driver.
