Don't different springs require different seals? I thought that the dual springs required the separate seats/seals for clearance or something...not sure, I could be 100% wrong (I think that I have this same question in another thread in the GM Engine and Exhaust Performance Section...)

No! I'm doin cam swap 1st. After that, pin crank, since I've heard its a bear to do it the other way round. I started this thread knowing full well I'd get comments like that. That's way I took so long to actually do the Radix thread in the 1st place.
I'd hoped I'd get some helpful insight before I put in blower, since there's a wealth of knowledge on this site. Even u John.

I thought i also rem reading that too, somebody left there stock seats on with duals and broke a spring because it hit the higher seal/seat. thats partially why i asked in the other thread, atomic also just posted up a pic of the stock and dual seats..
either way im almost positive there is a difference, thats why the duals come with their own seats/seals in the kit.. and beehives use the stockers...
edit: just looked at atomics pic some more, and it looks like the problem to me is the clearance with the inner spring to me, not so much the height fwiw..

Speakin of pin, I would like to pin that chick in you avatar.. It would seem she has a great set of cams. Her retainers seem to be a bit small which could cause issue of failure, due to high rpm activity...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if anyone can confirm this, I'd appreciate it?
-12457652 is p/n I need for valve stem seal kit (8) exh. [Brown]
-12533586 is p/n I need for v. stem seal kit (8) intk. [Black]

I believe those are the right ones for my '04.

I figured I'd get those; &
12574294 timing cover gasket is ~$22
12556429 valve cover gskt ~$19 ea.
12586482 LS2 chain ~$43

Which brings me to my next question. What am I gaining by goin to LS7 lifters?

That's another $122 (if I do it). Then don't I need the lifter guide bolt & lifter guides for em too?

For those interested, here's those p/n's from info I found.

12499225 LS7 lifters ~$122
12551163 lifter guide bolts, 4 req'd per engine ~$2.25 x 4
12595365 lifter guides 4 req'd ~$8 x 4

I don't mind spending, if I actually gaining somethin in return, not just emptying my wallet.

I wanna do this right, the 1st time. Where would u spend, where would u not?
I was advised to not do the LS7 lifters unless heads are comin off for work or new heads. So there's $167 I don't need to spend.

Last edited by fastnblu; Jul 6, 2010 at 03:01 PM. Reason: Added p/n's & prices. Pass on LS7 lifters for now.

For u guys in the know, SD sells a Cam Install Gskt Kit for '99-03.
It has gaskets for : valve cover gaskets, tim'g cover gskt, water pump gskt, front cover gskt & seal, & new balancer bolt, all for $62.

Did anything change betw. 03 & 04-on, as it pertains to this?
Nothing did that I know, but I've been wrong before.

Called SD & ordered some stuff. Cam Install Gasket Kit I mentioned above, new seals, & an LS2 chain. He said save my $, & pass on retainers & locks. Said just reuse my stockers, I'd be fine. That means I better not lose any of the lil buggers.

Slowly, but surely, things are coming together.

You and I already talked about this, but for those that are wondering, the cam install kit is the same for the 04-07 as the 99-03 as far as I know, the difference in those years would be in the head bolts, which changed from 2 different lengths in 99-03 to one length in 04-07. The valve cover gaskets, timing cover and crank seal, etc. should all be the same.

Stick with your lifters unless you plan to do headwork and the heads have to come off, or you're already having a problem with a lifter, no need to go through the work and money of pulling the heads, replacing the bolts and gaskets, and buying new lifters, save the dough and send it to me for my LQ9 fund
